About Me

Winner of the Jazz Division’s 2013 National Trumpet Competition and the 2008 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival’s Outstanding Trumpet Award, Seattle-Tacoma Based trumpeter Jared Hall is recognized as a contemporary and melodic soloist. At the age of 30, Jared has performed with the likes of Bob Hurst, Peter Erskine, Dave Liebman, Alan Pasqua, Brian Lynch, Ira Sullivan, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Arturo Sandoval, Maria Schneider, Terence Blanchard, and Fred Hersch. He has also shared the stage with Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, George Benson, Kenny Garrett, Eric Reed, Scott Wendholt, Randy Brecker, Wayne Bergeron, Kevin Spacey, Gloria Estefan, and Robin Eubanks.

Before receiving his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Trumpet Performance from Whitworth University in his hometown of Spokane, Washington, he was already conducting a trumpet studio and performing in the areas top jazz ensembles including The Bob Curnow Big Band, The Spokane Jazz Orchestra, and Six Foot Swing. While finishing his Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies as an Assistant Instructor at Indiana University (2012), Jared studied with percussionist Michael Spiro and trumpeters Joey Tartell and Part Harbison. Jared received a teaching assistantship under Brian Lynch and Henry Mancini Institute Fellowship at the University of Miami the following year to pursue a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance. While studying with trumpeter’s Brian Lynch and Terence Blanchard, Jared worked extensively in the straight-ahead and Latin jazz scene in Miami including performing with The Woody Herman Band, The South Florida Jazz Orchestra, The Bad Apples Brass Band, The Miami Big Sound Machine, The Frost Concert Jazz Band, The Henry Mancini Jazz Septet directed by Terence Blanchard, Brian Lynch’s Artist Ensemble, and many others.

Jared recently performed with Paquito D’Rivera at Carnegie Hall and with the Frost Concert Jazz Band at the 57th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival. He has also performed at the 2012 Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference with Mixteto Sonido (Latin jazz sextet), the 2013 JEN Conference with the Frost Concert Jazz Band, and the 2014 JEN Conference with the Frost Afro-Caribbean Artist Ensemble. Competing in the National Trumpet Competition in the Jazz Division, he placed 3rd in 2012 and 5th in 2011 overall. In 2008, he placed 2nd in the Brass division at Musicfest Northwest.

Jared has performed and recorded with The Main Squeeze on their new album The Main Squeeze (2012), George Benson on Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole (2013), The Frost School of Music on Sounds of the Season (2013), With Love (2014) by Jeremy Fox, which was recently nominated for the 57th Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement of “All My Tomorrows,” and Full Speed Ahead (2015) by Chris Croce. Active in theater productions, he has played lead trumpet in Shrek The Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Little Women, Catch Me If You Can, Damn Yankees, The Drowsy Chaperone, Hair, In The Heights, Les Misérables, and Annie, as well as many shows on board Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines.

An invested jazz educator, Jared has aided students of all ages to improve their trumpet technique, improvisational ability, and jazz piano chord/scale theory. As an assistant instructor at Indiana University in the jazz studies department under legendary jazz educator David Baker, Jared directed the fourth big band and non-major jazz combo in addition to helping the professors with courses in improvisation, the music of Duke Ellington, and the Latin big band. As a teaching assistant at the University of Miami, Jared conducted a private studio and had the privilege of working side-by-side with Grammy Award winning trumpeter and composer Brian Lynch co-coaching his Artist Ensemble and group lessons in jazz trumpet. In the summer of 2015, Jared was an instructor in Improvisation, The Jazz Workshop, Classical Trumpet, and Rhythm Section Ensemble at the Young Musician’s Camp in Miami.
