About Me

I remember the awe and excitement I felt when I was seven years old and sitting on the piano bench for my first lesson. After ten years of piano study and many more years of performing and teaching and playing for my own enjoyment, I still feel that anticipation when I sit down to play.

I majored in vocal performance at San Jose State University in California, and later studied voice at Stanford University, the University of Oregon and most recently with the late Patricia Gibbons in Puyallup. As soprano soloist I performed Gounod’s St. Celia Mass with the Peninsula Chamber Orchestra, and two seasons of One Enchanted Evening. I have performed Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand and Aaron Copeland’s Creation as a choral singer with the San Francisco Symphony. I also performed Bach’s Requiem Mass with the San Francisco Bach Choir.

I earned a B.A. In Recreation Park Management specializing in Therapeutic Recreation and worked as an Activities Director using my musical abilities in programming and performing for ten years. I still play and lead occasional sing-a-longs at Willow Gardens Retirement Center in Puyallup, which hosts my students’ recitals. I have taught private voice and piano lessons since 1998, and have successfully coached middle school and high school students preparing to audition for performance choirs at their school. I teach students from the ages of seven to retirement age and give one recital per year in either February or March. I prefer the Faber and Faber pedagogy series for piano study including theory and technique but also supplement other music according to the student’s interest and ability. I teach students from beginner to advanced intermediate.

I continue to perform as a guest pianist and soprano soloist at various churches in the area and am available to accompany students performing in solo and ensemble competitions. I enjoy many genres of music and have also composed some songs for children.
