About Me

It was in chorus class in the 9th grade that I saw the movie Funny Girl starring Barbara Streisand. As soon as I heard her sing Second Hand Rose and Don't Rain on My Parade I knew that singing was what I wanted to do with my life. During those turbulent years of high school that followed, it was music, theater, and chorus that helped to keep me grounded. Singing saved me: it gave me purpose, it helped to give all of that youthful angst an outlet, and it gave me confidence. Music is powerful and I believe that it can change lives. I am passionate about music and I bring that passion to the operatic and recital stage as well as the voice studio as a private vocal instructor.

I have been teaching voice lessons for the the last 15 years to students aged 10-80 from all walks of life and in many styles. I received my doctorate in vocal performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2012 and while my training is classically based, I stay up to date with CCM pedagogy (Contemporary Commercial Music) and have been successfully teaching in multiple styles for years.

It is my firm belief that everyone can sing. We may not all be Renee Fleming or Christina Aguilera or Michael Bublé, but we all have music in us and we can all improve. And really, not everyone can be a Michael Jordan but that doesn’t stop folks from playing basketball, does it? If you’re thinking about taking voice lessons, give it a shot. I think you’ll be glad you did.
