Chase Nicholson graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition. During his time in Los Angeles, he was a woodwind player at the Hannon Theatre for four seasons playing saxophone, clarinet, and flute in a variety of musicals. He was also apart of USC’s Concert Jazz Orchestra, directed by Jason Goldman and sang for two years in Sara Gazarek’s jazz vocal ensemble, CreSCendo.

Before attending USC, Chase was active in competing as a saxophone player. Both in 2011 and 2012 he was awarded first place at the Washington State Solo Competition for saxophone. He was also a member of the Puget Sound Saxophone Quartet, which played their way to New York for the 2012 MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) Young Artist Chamber Music Competition where the quartet was awarded 3rd place at Nationals.

Chase has a passion for equipping students of all levels to accomplish their goals, as well as stretching and challenging the way they listen to music to help shape them as musicians.

He studied classical saxophone with Fred Winkler – professor at Western Washington University and the University of Puget Sound, and Dr. James Rötter – principal saxophonist in the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Chase also studied jazz saxophone with Saul Cline – general manager of the Tacoma Symphony and accomplished woodwind player, Jason Goldman – big band leader and arranger in Los Angeles, and Grammy award-winning saxophonists Bob Mintzer and Bob Sheppard.
