A Message from Matthew Bufis
As you reach new milestones and achieve new goals and have different experiences and get that gratification of kids really enjoying what they do and wanting to kind of up the bar, you yourself you know are like what's the next thing, how am I going to top this. You know every year you get a different set of kids, different set of talents in different areas, and the neat thing about our job is trying to figure out how to capitalize on that; how to make those really great experiences with the students that are in front of you and that, as I get older and as I continue through my career, that becomes really gratifying. That’s also the challenge that I really like in music education.
In addition I've had over 20 student teachers over the last 20 some odd years, so just trying to reinvest in the future has kept me really on my toes because as you know, music education changes at the Collegiate level and at the societal level. I’m learning about all those changes from my student teachers that I have every year and what they value and what they are looking for and it really renews my energy and attention back in them so that's keeping me current.
