Private lessons with Tim Zilar

Tim Zilar is a multi-talented musician and educator from the pacifc northwest. He was born into a family of musicians, most notably being his mother, Sheila Gephart, and professional pianist and educator. For Tim, the musical life was inevitable.

His journey as a multi-instrumentalist started at Hanford High School under the direction of Chris Newbury and Kevin Swisher, where he was involved in many musical ensembles including jazz band, percussion ensemble, wind ensemble, orchestra, and marching band. He also marched two tours with the Columbians Drum and Bugle Corps. He then moved onto Eastern Washington University, where he continued most of these ensembles while also starting his educational career. He studied under Michael Millham, Milad Abeid, Jenny Kellogg, and Dr. Michael Waldrop. Moving on to Western Washington University, he continued his educational career even further, studying under Dr. Patrick Roulet, Kevin Woods, and David Feingold. He graduated in December of 2019 with a Bachelor's in Music Education.

Tim has shared the stage with such musicians as Matt Harris, Jay Thomas, Christian Howes, Damani Philips, Ingrid Jenson, Laurence Juber, Derico Watson, Peter Ferry, Elliot Cole and Snarky Puppy to name a few.

Aside from playing, he has taught percussion in the marching band world for several years at Hanford High School, Ferndale High School and Pasco High School. He has also been a self-taught recording artist for a over decade, creating and recording accompaniment CDs, ensemble work, and solo work.

Tim continues to master his crafts of teaching, creating, and performing. He is currently the guitarist for Black Dolly out of Tri-Cities, WA and The Pickle Company out of Bellingham, WA.
