Private lessons with Michael King

Cellist Michael King currently lives in Seattle WA where he teaches both Suzuki and traditional methods and is the teaching assistant to Saeunn Thorsteinsdottir at the University of Washington. At UW he is currently a DMA candidate in cello performance. He has been teaching privately for over 10 years and enjoys working with students at any age or level. Michael is certified in all 10 Suzuki books as well as having completed group class training. Before moving to Seattle Michael taught at Suzuki Strings at The University of South Carolina.

Mr. King received his BM in cello performance from the University of South Carolina, his MM in cello performance from The University of North Carolina School of the Arts and a certificate in Suzuki Pedagogy from the University of Denver. His teachers include Robert Jesselson, Brooks Whitehouse, Carol Tarr, Mellisa Kraut and Saeun Thorsteindottir. An avid chamber musician, Michael has attended Green Mountain Chamber music festival, Meadowmount School for strings and the National Music Festival. Michael believes that every student is unique and modifies his approach to best fit each student. He is comfortable teaching students from ages 3 and up. He believes that a good mix of fun and games with a constant eye on technique is the best combination to help students reach their full potential and be able to comfortably play in any genre.
