Making Music Matter represents new paradigm of teaching beginning band, masterfully conceived to elevate the traditional goals of a first year method book. With Making Music Matter, all students begin on notes that offer security and confidence. As students progressing through Making Music Matter Book 1, they are provided many opportunities for skill development, creativity and performance.
Making Music Matter is the end result of renowned composer Frank Ticheli and esteemed music educator Gregory B. Rudgers coming together to create a sequentially orchestrated blend of daily warm-ups, drills and exercises. These warm-ups and practice tools are complemented by 24 original Frank Ticheli band compositions and 15 solo pieces. Each composition offers a genuine music-making experience based on the skills students have just mastered. The unique Creative Corner affords students the opportunity to experience improvisation as they creatively apply their performance skills.
The goal of Making Music Matter is not just learning to play an instrument, but rather to use newly acquired abilities and experience the true joy of making music. Each lesson has been thoughtfully formatted to build confidence, to nurture creativity, and to experience real music-making. It is no longer a matter of simply “getting it right” and “teaching to the test,” but rather of using skills and knowledge to open new pathways to learning, achieving, and creating.
Schools adopting Making Music Matter as their beginning band method will lead their students into new vistas of musical discovery.
