Zach MacLurg grew up in Washington State, but found himself learning the art of trombone (and earning his Masters of Music in Classical Trombone) at the Manhattan School of Music with Per Brevig. He also studied under John Neurohr at Central Washington University, earning a Bachelor's of Music in Performance.
Zach is an active professional; having had the privilege of playing with a number of orchestras including the Olympia, Yakima, and Chelsea Symphonies, and in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City and Benaroya Hall in Seattle.
Passionate about chamber music, he has had the opportunity to work closely on trombone and brass repertoire with Dave Taylor and David Finlayson, as well as masterclasses with Joseph Alessi and Jesper Juul. Not one to put himself in the Classical "box," he also plays tenor and bass trombone in big bands and enjoys making and recording trombone arrangements of video game and film music. When he’s not behind an instrument and a stack of music, Zach can frequently be found fishing and kayaking on the Puget Sound.
