Noah Pettibon is a baritone saxophonist, woodwind multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and composer from the Tacoma area.
He is a graduate of Central Washington University where he studied classical clarinet, performing in CWU’s Wind Ensemble as a bass clarinetist and Jazz Band 1 in the baritone saxophone chair. Today, Noah records and performs throughout the Puget Sound area as a leader and sideman in multiple styles. He has performed with Delfeayo Marsalis, Dmitri Matheny, John Clayton, and is currently the baritone saxophonist for Rich Wetzel’s Groovin’ Higher Orchestra, a rock and jazz fusion ensemble based in Tacoma. Noah has also recorded for composer Jafet Meza and producer EyeLoveBrandon, in addition to producing and recording multiple albums under his own name, among other recording projects.
Noah’s basic music education began with piano lessons at age 6 which he continued until age 10 when he began playing saxophone in school band. In high school, he was struck with a love of improvisation, at which point he began studying saxophone, clarinet, and flute privately. Noah considers himself very lucky to have been exposed to many major figures in music, many of which have become dear friends, who have shared with him their passion for music making. He draws from the wisdom granted to him by these individuals, such as the late jazz educator Barry Harris, New York City baritone saxophonist Frank Basile, and his Tacoma-native mentors Tracy Knoop and Kareem Kandi, in his own teaching.
