If I can give one word of encouragement to a teacher that's struggling, it would be to take a step back and realize the real importance of the work that you are doing and think about what music provided for you as a young person. Because obviously if you're teaching music, somebody taught you to love it; at some point you said this is just what I'm going to do. If you realize that you have the opportunity to provide that for other people, other students, and a community, I would just see if you can take time or reflect on that. I think the influence oftentimes goes much, much deeper than we realize it goes. The job matters more to the culture of your school and community than you think it does.
